Interview with Oksana Grishina

What was the turning point in your life that made you want to invest in your own body?

I have been an athlete for most of my life, competing as a rhythmic gymnast from an early age, so most of my life has been spent in the gym. When my gymnastics career ended, I found Fitness as a sport to express my athleticism, creativity, and energy. It was the perfect next step for me.

What motivates you to continue a disciplined lifestyle?

I feel more comfortable when I’m organized, well-prepared, and on time. You always get results this way so, of course, this motivates me. The best way to accomplish anything in life is to set goals, work hard, and never give up, and discipline is the first step.

What training do you do besides weight training?

I do a lot of choreography, stretching, acrobatics training and, for my last performance, a lot of pole dancing workouts.

What is your favorite explosive upper body exercise?

Jumping Push-ups, Hand Stand Push-ups or, for a real challenge, Flying Push-ups!

What is your favorite explosive lower body exercise?

Straddle jump, usually in sets of 10 quick jumps.

Is there a gymnastics exercise that you could recommend?

With every workout it’s important to begin with a warm-up of proper choreography and stretching, to make sure your body is prepared to do exercises with good form.

What exercises would you do if you could only train one hour two times a week?

Session 1:I would do an hour of upper body exercises to focus on shoulders, chest, back and arms.

Session 2:This day would be devoted to legs, using a combination of squats, deadlifts, lunges, and other leg-specific exercises.

What is your favorite healthy food to pack for lunch?

I usually pack chicken, potato and cucumber.

What is your number one tool for fighting cravings?

I have made my diet a part of my lifestyle, so I really don’t have cravings to fight. Any non-diet foods that I really love will always be there after the show.

What sport related services do you provide?

My life as a pro competitor is very busy, but I do offer online personal training for a limited number of clients. Of course, I do my best to answer questions and share my knowledge and experiences, whenever possible. Most people also need moral support to keep them motivated, and I’ve found that this can be as valuable as training advice. I love to help people as I can.

How can people get in touch with you?

I can be reached through my website at www.oksanagrishina.com, and I am easily found on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
